Can Atalay's parents react to unlawful decision: 'They tore him away from the families in Soma'

The mother and father of Can Atalay, whose parliamentary membership was revoked in a parliamentary first despite two Constitutional Court rulings of rights violations, have spoken out. His father, Mustafa Atalay, said, "They tore Can away from the people, from the families in Soma. They tore Can away from the parents of our girls who burned in Aladağ."

Can Atalay's parents react to unlawful decision: 'They tore him away from the families in Soma'

The Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) witnessed historic moments yesterday.

The mother of Hatay's elected deputy Can Atalay, Şükran Atalay, and his father Mustafa Atalay made statements following the decision.

Father Mustafa Atalay said the following:

"IF THERE IS NO CONSTITUTION, THERE IS NO BREAD"

"Get well soon to Turkish democracy. I fear that worse things will come after this decision. I fear what will come to the public. In this country, if there is no Constitution, there is no law, and there is no security of life. Most importantly, if there is no Constitution, there is no bread.

Before he was elected, the Supreme Election Council (YSK) approved Can's candidacy, stating there was no obstacle to his parliamentary membership, and issued his certificate. Then, an application was made to the Constitutional Court (AYM) regarding the violation of rights. On the evening of the same day, the 3rd Criminal Chamber of the Court of Cassation upheld the sentence. Despite the Constitutional Court's ruling, the Court of Cassation's decision was read out. This is the main article of the laws that we are all obliged to obey: the Constitution.

EMPHASIS ON SOMA AND ÇORLU

The Constitution's ruling is not being implemented by the local court. But the Court of Cassation's decision was read today. By having the revocation decision read out, the Parliament has ceased to be a constitutional institution. I am of the opinion that from tomorrow on, no one will have any guarantee called law. Because they have placed the Court of Cassation above the Constitution.

My child is resilient. He is both selfless and resilient. You know the living conditions in an 18-square-meter space. We visit our child for 1 hour, and we can talk on the phone for 10 minutes. Thank God, Can loves reading and researching. He occupies himself with this.

After the decision was finalized, the visiting hours also changed. Now, as a mother and father, our son's health is our priority. Despite him being very careful, we are worried. Also, Can was a very productive person on the outside. To his fellow citizens, his homeland, and those whose rights were violated...

They tore Can away from the people, from the families in Soma. They tore Can away from the parents of our girls who burned in Aladağ. They tore him away from defending the rights of the families of the children we lost at the train station in Çorlu."

"WHICH TERRORIST ORGANIZATION MEMBER?"

Mother Şükran Atalay said, "Everything is so clear that even AK Party members know it. These children were acquitted. These children were acquitted both legally and in the conscience of society. I think conscientious AK Party members do not approve of this either. I conduct surveys on the street, I ask everyone, 'Do you know Can Atalay?' I haven't received a single negative reaction. Because there is nothing they can associate him with. They call him a terrorist; which terrorist organization is he a member of? Let them tell me, let them show me an image of violence. They write whatever they want, they play games. One day, the law will be needed by everyone."
