Çankaya Mayor detained: Mansur Yavaş reacts, 'We have nothing to fear'

Çankaya Mayor Hüseyin Can Güner has been detained. Addressing the party members gathered in front of the municipality, Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavaş said, "I had said that we understand our interlocutors are now the police and the prosecutor's office. Today, we are at that point."

Yavaş spoke as follows:

"Unfortunately, we are here today to show our support for Mayor Hüseyin and to react to the morning operation, which we did not want to see. We are here to show solidarity. I also have things to say. Strange things are happening in Turkey."

"In the speech made on the day of the party statute convention, it was noted that CHP municipalities achieved a 58 percent success rate. This predicts a change of government to take place as soon as possible. I had said that we understand our interlocutors are now the police and the prosecutor's office. Today, we are there. Some people whose business is disrupted or who cannot get what they want from the municipality might go and file a complaint against us when things do not go their way. The prosecutor's office writes to the Ministry. Inspectors examine it. An investigation proceeds. That procedure has now been abolished."

"WE HAVE NOTHING TO FEAR"

"Our mayors are being detained immediately on allegations such as embezzlement and bribery. Have you ever heard of one who was summoned and did not go? Why should we be afraid? We have nothing to fear. My declaration of assets is written everywhere. We share it transparently with the public. We have nothing to run from or fear. The people of Ankara will decide our punishment. Instead of the law of enmity, there are former-era bureaucrats who are being tried based on the complaint petitions I have filed since I took office in 2019. None of them were detained or arrested; their trials are ongoing. This is what should be. However, what is happening is that this operation is the 39th operation conducted against our mayors. As a result of unfair arrests, some slanderers are accusing others under the guise of confession.
