Çankırı Governor's Office reports storm toll: 78 incidents occurred, 6 people injured

In a statement made by the Çankırı Governor's Office, it was reported that 78 incidents occurred, including 65 roof collapses, 5 tree falls, damage to 5 barns, the destruction of 3 mosque minarets, and that 6 citizens were injured.

“65 ROOFS BLOWN OFF, 3 MOSQUE MINARETS DESTROYED”

In the statement made by the Çankırı Governor's Office, “As a result of the storm, typhoon, and whirlwind that occurred in the province of Çankırı on April 20, 2024, a total of 78 cases were reported to the Çankırı AFAD following notifications received by the Çankırı 112 Emergency Call Center. These cases include 65 roofs blown off, 5 tree falls, 5 barns damaged, and 3 mosque minarets destroyed.

6 of our citizens were injured across the province, and none of them are in life-threatening condition. One minaret of the Bademlik Mosque located in the city center has collapsed. Buildings surrounding the other minaret of the same mosque have been evacuated, and our citizens residing in these buildings have been directed to suitable hotels in our city to meet their accommodation and nutritional needs.

Roof damage occurred in 4 schools and 2 public buildings across the province. While there are no issues in 3 of the schools, it is estimated that repairs at the school in the Ilgaz district will take 1 week. Planning has been carried out to ensure that the education and training processes of the students studying at the aforementioned school are not disrupted.

Maintenance and repair work began following power outages caused by the storm, and electricity was restored to all subscribers as of 20:00. No malfunctions occurred in GSM operators, although there were occasional slowdowns in access speeds due to traffic density resulting from heavy phone usage by subscribers.

Damage to roads (paving stones, cobblestones, etc.) has been repaired as a result of the work carried out by the relevant municipalities. The current event has been evaluated within the scope of Level 1, and Damage Assessment and Loss Assessment Studies have been initiated by AFAD, the Defterdarlık (Provincial Finance Office), and the Provincial Directorate of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change teams in line with the reports received,” the statement said.
