Cause of death for baby Rana, who was attacked by dogs, has been determined: Autopsy report released

Family lawyer Hasan Yılmaz stated that the final autopsy report for 2-year-old baby Rana, who lost her life following an attack by stray dogs in Konya, has been completed, and that no evidence of sexual abuse or any other findings that would have caused her death were found on the baby's body.

In a statement made in front of the Konya Courthouse, Yılmaz reported that baby Rana's final autopsy report was completed as a result of the meticulous work of the Antalya Forensic Medicine Institute and the Konya Forensic Medicine Institute presidencies.

Stating that, as in the preliminary autopsy report, no findings other than traces of the dog attack were seen on baby Rana's body, Yılmaz noted the following:

"Rana's cause of death has been clearly determined. According to the autopsy report, the definitive cause of death for Rana was determined to be internal and external bleeding resulting from skull, cervical spine, and rib fractures, as well as internal organ injuries. It has been determined that the injuries are consistent with a dog attack and bites. All injuries occurred while the child was alive. The lesions in the genital area are consistent with dog bites, and no evidence of any abuse, including sexual abuse, was found. There are no other findings that would create suspicion regarding her death."

"LEGAL ACTION WILL BE INITIATED"

Expressing that some social media accounts are trying to mislead the public with baseless claims, Yılmaz used the expression, "Legal action will be initiated and criminal complaints will be filed with the prosecutor's office against individuals and organizations that publish such untrue news, mislead the public, and slander the client family."

Yılmaz stated that after the incident, a person in Konya who claimed to be an animal lover was arrested on charges of "spreading misleading information to the public," adding, "While the client family is in great pain, the distortion of the incident and the misleading of the public will never be allowed. We will follow the legal process to the end to ensure justice is served."

WHAT HAPPENED?

On March 7, 2-year-old Syrian national Rana El Selci was attacked by stray dogs on Şehit Erdal Özçelik Street in the Başak neighborhood, and the injured baby could not be saved despite the intervention performed at Konya City Hospital, where she was taken by ambulance.

Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç had announced that an investigation into the incident had been initiated by the Konya Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
