Cause of fire that killed 15 in Diyarbakır and Mardin revealed
Despite claims by DEDAŞ and official sources that 'stubble burning caused the fire,' the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office's preliminary report has determined that the fire, which killed 15 people, was caused by electricity.
The expert report on the fire that claimed 15 lives in Diyarbakır and Mardin has been released. The report determined that the cause of the fire was an electricity pole.
Despite statements from official sources regarding the fire that occurred between Diyarbakır and Mardin, which killed 15 people, claiming it was a 'stubble fire,' eyewitnesses and a report by the Chamber of Electrical Engineers pointed to the fire originating from power lines. The finding that the fire was electrical in origin was also reflected in the preliminary report within the scope of the investigation launched by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
According to information obtained from Diyarbakır Bar Association sources, a preliminary report regarding the fire disaster was prepared by the prosecutor's office based on the testimonies of villagers and eyewitnesses, as well as evidence collected.
The report included the finding that the fire was caused by electricity. It was stated that a detailed report would be prepared in the coming days after the relevant institutions are also heard as part of the investigation, which has been announced to be expanded.
REPORTS POINT TO DEDAŞ
The Diyarbakır Branch of the Chamber of Electrical Engineers had also stated in the report it prepared that there was no stubble in the fire area and that no precautions against fire had been taken along the routes where the lines pass.
It was also revealed that a similar fire had occurred in the same region in 2023.
Following an application, DEDAŞ was found to be at fault, and it was decided that compensation should be paid to the citizens.
