ÇAYKUR announces: Quota introduced for fresh tea purchases

In a statement issued by the ÇAYKUR General Directorate, it was noted that the first harvest purchases began on May 4 and have been continuing freely.

Pointing out that the tea harvest cannot be completed in 3-5 days, the statement included the following:

"It is important for quality that our producers harvest fresh tea in accordance with daily limits without rushing.

Our institution's daily procurement exceeding 12 thousand tons is putting a strain on our facilities.

Starting tomorrow, we need to return to normal conditions by purchasing 50 kilograms per decare for a short period."

Although the statement emphasized that this would be for a short period, it did not include any indication of when this practice would end.

WHAT IS THE PURCHASE PRICE FOR FRESH TEA?

The Ministry of Agriculture had determined the 2024 fresh tea purchase price and announced it on May 11.

In the statement made by the Ministry, while the fresh tea purchase price was set at 17 liras per kilogram, the support payment provided to producers was announced as 2 liras.

Thus, the 2024 fresh tea purchase price became 19 liras per kilogram.

Tea producers had reacted to the determined price per kilogram, expressing their dissatisfaction to the authorities due to the low price.
