Celebration of the 'March 3 Revolution Laws' by the Kemalist Enlightenment Association

Kemalist Enlightenment Association Vice President Prof. Dr. Nur Serter also stated that on March 3, 1924, with the abolition of the caliphate, the adoption of the Law on Unification of Education, and the closure of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Foundations, Turkey legally turned its face toward secularism and modernity.

Emphasizing that the full realization of the Republic was made possible by the three revolution laws enacted with the spirit of the National Struggle, Serter noted the following:

"We respectfully commemorate our Great Leader Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and the heroes of the National Struggle, who fought throughout their lives to ensure that the Republic of Turkey would not become a country of sheikhs, dervishes, disciples, and followers. In a period where the principle of secularism is being eroded and dogmatic approaches are being imposed in place of scientific education, the March 3 Revolution Laws are our most important foundation for protecting the core values of the Republic of Turkey. On the 101st anniversary of the revolution laws, those who allow structures linked to sects and religious communities to gain influence in education are also those who threaten the secular and scientific education system. Every setback experienced in education is an attack on the fundamental values of the Republic and our future.

As the Kemalist Enlightenment Association, we will not remain silent against these attacks, and we will continue our struggle for scientific and contemporary education. Protecting the fundamental values of our Republic and building a bright future in the light of these laws is our common responsibility. Undoubtedly, the bright future of our republic is possible through a secular and contemporary education system where questioning minds are raised under the guidance of science. As the Kemalist Enlightenment Association, we will continue our struggle with determination to carry Turkey into a bright future in the light of these laws."
