Cem Garipoğlu's autopsy records to be reviewed

Cem Garipoğlu's autopsy records to be reviewed

The Silivri Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has requested the autopsy records of Cem Garipoğlu, who died by suicide in prison 15 years after murdering Münevver Karabulut in Istanbul.

The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has taken a new decision regarding the death of Cem Garipoğlu, who was sentenced to 24 years in prison for the murder of Münevver Karabulut on November 18, 2011, and died by suicide on October 10, 2014, while being held at the Silivri No. 5 Prison.

Following a request from the father, Mehmet Nida Garipoğlu, for an "exhumation" and "DNA matching," the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has requested that the Istanbul Council of Forensic Medicine prepare and send the photographs and video recordings of the procedures performed during Cem Garipoğlu's autopsy.

A decision on whether to exhume Garipoğlu's grave will be made based on the report to be prepared by a panel of experts who will examine the autopsy footage.

THE MÜNEVVER KARABULUT MURDER

The dismembered body of Münevver Karabulut, who was murdered in a villa in Bahçeşehir, was found in a trash container in Etiler on March 3, 2009.

On November 18, 2011, the Bakırköy 4th High Criminal Court sentenced Cem Garipoğlu to 24 years in prison for the murder of Münevver Karabulut. Garipoğlu died by suicide on October 10, 2014, while being held at the Silivri No. 5 Prison.

Following the autopsy, Garipoğlu's body was buried, and DNA samples taken from the family matched those of the deceased.
