Cem Garipoğlu's grave opened
The decision to open the grave of Cem Garipoğlu, who committed suicide in prison in 2014 but whose death has been considered suspicious, has hit the agenda like a bombshell. The grave of Cem Garipoğlu, who brutally murdered Münevver Karabulut 15 years ago, began to be opened today at 11:00 AM. A tree located next to Cem Garipoğlu's grave, which effectively obscured it, was removed by teams. Garipoğlu's remains were exhumed from the cemetery. Teams set up tarpaulins around the grave to ensure security.
Cem Garipoğlu, the murder suspect in the Münevver Karabulut case that shook Turkey in 2009, had been in hiding for 7 months during his trial before turning himself in at the Bahçelievler police station on September 17, 2009, accompanied by his lawyer, Aytekin Kaya.

Following the trial, Garipoğlu was sentenced to 24 years in prison, but shortly after entering prison, he committed suicide at Silivri Prison on October 10, 2014.
The grave of Cem Garipoğlu, whose death has been considered suspicious, began to be opened as of 11:00 AM today, following the approval of the Karabulut family's years-long application for exhumation.

Security forces also took precautions at the cemetery where the forensic team was present to ensure no evidence was lost.

TEAMS ARRIVED AT THE CEMETERY
The officials who will excavate the grave of Cem Garipoğlu, who murdered Münevver Karabulut 15 years ago, along with crime scene investigation teams and the Public Prosecutor, arrived at the cemetery.

Bone samples will be taken from Cem Garipoğlu's remains for identity matching.

MÜNEVVER KARABULUT'S FAMILY DID NOT ATTEND
The excavation of the grave has begun. Münevver Karabulut's family, who have claimed the grave was empty, chose not to be present at the cemetery during the excavation process.

The tree located next to Cem Garipoğlu's grave that was covering it was removed by the teams.

REMAINS PLACED IN COFFIN AND TAKEN TO THE FORENSIC MEDICINE INSTITUTE
The process of opening Cem Garipoğlu's grave has been completed. While police teams took extensive security measures around the cemetery since the morning hours, the assigned public prosecutor, police and crime scene investigation teams, Forensic Medicine Institute officials, and the Münevver Karabulut family's lawyer, Rezan Epözdemir, were present at the cemetery.

The remains exhumed from Garipoğlu's grave were placed in a coffin and taken to the Forensic Medicine Institute by a hearse. DNA samples taken from Garipoğlu will be matched with his family, and it will be clarified whether the person in the grave is indeed Garipoğlu.
