Footage from cemetery sparked outrage: They had left Turkey before the video was posted

The act of disrespect at the Andızlı Cemetery in the Muratpaşa district of Antalya has drawn widespread outrage. Two foreign nationals who came to the cemetery in the evening about a week ago sat on gravestones to play cards and consume drinks. The women, who recorded those moments, shared the footage on their social media accounts.

SECURITY GUARDS INTERVENED

Cemetery security guards who noticed the women intervened immediately and escorted the two individuals out. However, the incident did not end there. When the women shared the footage they had filmed in the cemetery on social media, the backlash grew like an avalanche.

IT EMERGED THEY HAD LEFT TURKEY

An investigation conducted by the Antalya Police Department identified the women in the scandalous footage as E.S. and K.Y. Research revealed that the two individuals had left Turkey and gone abroad on Monday, March 10, 2025.

ACCUSATION OF 'INCITING THE PUBLIC TO HATRED AND HOSTILITY'

Judicial proceedings have been initiated against the women for the crime of 'inciting the public to hatred and hostility' in accordance with Article 216 of the Turkish Penal Code. The Antalya Police Department included the following statements in its announcement regarding the matter:

"Following reports in some press/media outlets and social media accounts on 14.03.2025 regarding 2 people playing cards and engaging in inappropriate behavior at a cemetery in Antalya, the necessary investigations have been carried out. In the work conducted by our police units, it was determined that the incident was carried out by foreign nationals named E.S. and K.Y. It has been determined that the individuals left Turkey on 10.03.2025, and judicial proceedings have been initiated against them for the crime of 'inciting the public to hatred and hostility'."
