Ceyhan Mayor Kadir Aydar released: 'The decision is correct but incomplete'

CHP's Ceyhan Mayor Kadir Aydar, who was granted a release order in the Aziz İhsan Aktaş case, has been released from Marmara Prison in Silivri. In his speech following his release, Aydar said, “Our struggle will continue; this is just the beginning, and more of these releases will follow.”

CHP's Adana Ceyhan Mayor Kadir Aydar, who was arrested on June 4 as part of the Aziz İhsan Aktaş investigation, has been granted a release order.

Released from Marmara Prison in Silivri, Aydar said in his first statement, “Our struggle will continue; this is just the beginning, and more of these releases will follow.”

Aydar continued his speech by saying, “When I was there, my body was inside, but my soul was outside. Now my body is outside, but my soul is inside. Our struggle will continue together with them. These releases will continue. This has now become a beginning.”

“THE DECISION IS CORRECT BUT INCOMPLETE”

When asked about the statements that led to his transfer from Adana to Silivri, Aydar replied, “The essence of the matter is this. From the very first day, we said: The company that Aziz İhsan Aktaş called 'my relatives' was owed 1.5 million by the municipality. I mean, no one there would say, 'Would you buy an apartment for 20 million, which is 4-5 times its value, in exchange for 1.5 million?'

Furthermore, the prosecutor's reports revealed that the price of the apartment was the same as the price of the apartment my father sold. And no one would buy an apartment for that much money, far above its value, in exchange for 1.5 million.

We spent 11 months in prison for this reason. After 11 months, I saw such a crowd. My friends are lying alone in 12-square-meter cells. I am sad for them, so my heart is a bit heavy.

It is not easy to be imprisoned there. My friends are standing tall. My Mayor Ekrem, Utku, Mayor Hakan, and other mayors whose names I cannot list are standing tall. I am proud of them. These releases will continue.”

Finally, Aydar said, “This release decision is correct but incomplete. It will be completed along with our other friends.”

ÇELİK: ALL OUR FRIENDS WILL REGAIN THEIR FREEDOM

CHP Istanbul Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik, who then took the floor, said, “We will take all our friends out of the Silivri dungeon. We will carry out our country's struggle for democracy very strongly. No one should fall into despair. All our friends will regain their freedom.”

WHAT HAPPENED?

In the second hearing of the case opened on the grounds that businessman Aziz İhsan Aktaş organized tenders by bribing some mayors and administrators, a release order was issued for five detained defendants. Among those released was Adana Ceyhan Mayor Kadir Aydar.

In the case heard at the Istanbul 1st High Criminal Court, 200 defendants, including CHP mayors, 16 of whom were in custody, were being tried.

Among those in custody are Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza Akpolat, Adana Seyhan Mayor Oya Tekin, and Avcılar Mayor Utku Caner Çaykara.
