'Chassis swapping' operation in 10 provinces: 31 suspects detained
Teams from the Istanbul Public Security Branch Office's Auto Theft Bureau detained 31 suspects in a simultaneous operation across 10 provinces. It was learned that the suspects purchased heavily damaged vehicles and sold them after performing 'chassis swaps' using stolen, seized, or imported vehicles.

Teams from the Istanbul Public Security Branch Office's Auto Theft Bureau, as part of a planned investigation aimed at seizing stolen vehicles with swapped chassis and identifying and apprehending the perpetrators, conducted a simultaneous operation on March 1, 2024, in the provinces of Istanbul, Ankara, Yozgat, Kayseri, Tokat, Diyarbakır, Adıyaman, Kırşehir, İzmir, and Samsun, detaining 31 suspects.
It was learned that the suspects, who were brought to the Istanbul Public Security Branch Office, purchased heavily damaged vehicles and sold them after performing chassis swaps using stolen vehicles, vehicles brought from abroad, or vehicles subject to seizure or liens, and that the suspects committed 45 separate acts of qualified fraud and forgery of official documents using these methods.

Of the 45 vehicles with swapped chassis seized during the operations, 44 have been returned to their owners.

Following their interrogations at the Istanbul Public Security Branch Office's Auto Theft Bureau, the suspects were referred to the courthouse.
