Chief Advisor to the President Uçum issues language warning regarding 'Terror-Free Turkey' statements: They have no right to speak

Uçum stated that attention must be paid to the language used in the 'Terror-Free Turkey' process. Mehmet Uçum said, "The terror tutelage that is being liquidated exists not only over political channels and parties associated with terrorist organizations, but also in their language.

The term 'political prisoner' can be given as a concrete example.

Setting aside the meaning of the term 'political prisoner and the context in which it might be used, what is certain is that there are no political prisoners in Turkey," he said.

Uçum, who made a statement regarding 'Terror-Free Turkey,' said that attention must be paid to the language used in this process. Emphasizing that individuals and structures associated with terrorism must be fought on both political and legal grounds, Uçum stated that positive law cannot be denied through ideological rhetoric.

MHP Deputy Chairman Feti Yıldız also reshared this post by Uçum, which contained the warning.

There are statuses defined in criminal legislation such as suspect, defendant, detainee, convict, and terror offender. These are legal statuses. You cannot obscure positive law with ideological-political characterizations.

You cannot portray a criminal as innocent. You cannot make a hero out of someone who commits corruption, or a victim out of someone who collaborates with terror. You cannot exonerate individuals who have been accused of or found guilty of committing crimes under criminal law by rejecting the law. You may criticize positive law within the boundaries of the law, but you cannot deny the law. You can only defend yourself against allegations within the law and fight through legal channels.

If certain individuals with statuses such as suspect, defendant, detainee, or convict are viewed as 'political prisoners,' the rights stemming from these statuses are actually denied. It is understood that those who use the term 'political prisoner' are not even aware of this. This ideological-political rote learning and this aggressive language directed at positive law must be abandoned immediately. Otherwise, you cannot talk about both 'political prisoners' and legal reform at the same time. Those who do not recognize the current law cannot have the right to speak on the need for changes to positive law."
