Chief Advisor to the President Uçum makes 'sick man' jab: 'It is dying'

Uçum, in a statement titled "The sick man European Union does not give up its condescension" posted on his social media account X, stated the following:

"European Parliament Turkey Rapporteur Amor said, 'We are open to developing defense ties with Turkey, but membership is not on the horizon.' He claimed that 'the European Union is a club of democracies.' For visa liberalization, he pointed to 'taking steps regarding the Anti-Terror Law and data protection, and the principle of legal certainty for the Customs Union.' Regarding membership, he admitted that the issue is more about anti-Turkey political approaches than partnership law. He cited the trustee appointments that Turkey occasionally implements within the framework of combating elements supporting terrorism, as well as certain convicted individuals, as negative examples. It is clear that the EU, which wants Turkey to weaken its fight against terrorism both in terms of legislation and implementation, is not acting in good faith. More importantly, it is absolutely unacceptable for the EU to view Turkey only in terms of Europe's security needs.

Our President Erdoğan shows a sincere approach regarding European Union membership. In contrast, the European Union is acting in a completely insincere and hypocritical manner with the exact opposite attitude. Amor's language is a clear indicator of the condescension produced by arrogance and a colonial mentality.

In EU member states that claim to be champions of democracy, there are many examples contrary to democracy and law, such as legal massacres like the NSU trials, widespread rights violations like those against the Yellow Vests, and systematic police practices that violate personal rights. In member states, implicit/explicit police state practices, xenophobia, anti-Black sentiment, Islamophobia, and racism have become commonplace. The EU's deliberate blindness and attitudes supporting the genocidal party, except for isolated examples in Gaza, have shown how far they are from humanity and democracy.

"IT IS DYING"

In fact, the European Union is dying; they have become a cautionary tale during the pandemic and in Gaza. The European Union is today's 'sick man.' Those who speak on behalf of this sick man should first look at themselves. The sick man European Union cannot give Turkey lessons on democracy and law. They should deal with their own democracy and legal crises. They should look at their social justice problems. The language they use with a colonial and condescending mentality has no value. The relationship between Turkey and the EU can only be an equal-level relationship.

"TURKEY IS OF COURSE OPEN TO RELATIONS"

The era of vertical relationships is long over. It would be appropriate for everyone to realize this. Furthermore, today, direct relations with member states have become much more important than relations with the EU. Turkey is, of course, open to all relations with every member state on an equal-rights and equal-level basis. Finally, let us state that if there is to be an EU membership process for Turkey from now on, it will only be conditional on Turkey developing partnership law together with the EU. Otherwise, no one should expect Turkey to accept without objection the partnership law that the EU will impose on it."
