Chilling incident in Beşiktaş, Istanbul: She burned her baby and threw it in the trash! Arrest requested

In the Ortaköy neighborhood of Beşiktaş, municipal cleaning workers discovered a baby's body next to a trash container on Çevirmeci Street. The police were immediately notified. Upon arriving at the scene, teams determined that the baby was a newborn, its umbilical cord had been cut, and there were burns and cuts on its body.

MOTHER TAKEN INTO CUSTODY

Following a police investigation, 39-year-old Elif A., identified as the baby's mother, was taken into custody. In her statement to the police, the suspect claimed she realized her pregnancy late and therefore had no opportunity to have an abortion. She explained that she gave birth alone at home, cut the umbilical cord with scissors, and then placed the baby in a trash bag and left it next to the container.

“I RETURNED TO THE SCENE”

Elif A. also admitted in her statement that she went out to shop after the birth and later passed by the place where she had left the baby.

PAST REVEALED

It was learned that Elif A., who divorced her husband in May, has three children, and that the deceased baby was from a man she was living with under a religious marriage. The body of the baby, who was determined to be a girl, was sent to the Forensic Medicine Institute for an autopsy.

REFERRED ON CHARGES OF “INTENTIONAL MURDER OF A FIRST-DEGREE RELATIVE”

Following her interrogation at the Homicide Bureau, Elif A. was referred to the courthouse on charges of “intentional murder of a first-degree relative.” According to the report by Ekol reporter Dilek Yaman Demir, the prosecutor's office has requested the suspect mother's arrest.
