CHP Adana Youth Branch marches to Silivri: A struggle that will go down in history

The CHP Adana Provincial Youth Organization began its march to Silivri today following a press conference held in front of the Adana Metropolitan Municipality to demand the release of Adana Metropolitan Mayor Zeydan Karalar and other mayors. 

CHP Youth Branches Chairman Cem Aydın said, “We are in Adana today, and we are starting a struggle that will go down in history. Our 10-person team will be welcomed by our provincial organizations in every province throughout the 1,300-kilometer march, which will last approximately 45 days. For 40 days, the youth of Adana have been raising their voices in the squares for our Mayor Zeydan, Mayor Oya, and Mayor Kadir. Now, we are carrying this voice beyond the borders of Adana.”

"IT WILL BE ETCHED IN THE PAGES OF HISTORY"

CHP Adana Deputy Müzeyyen Şevkin stated, “We have gathered here today to support the march that our youth branches are starting from here to Silivri to take a stand against an injustice. My dear brothers and sisters, who are rightfully upholding their duties as stated in Atatürk’s Address to the Youth; may your path be clear. I kiss you all on the forehead. I am glad you are here. While no indictments have been prepared for any of our 17 mayors, including our Mayor Zeydan, as well as our mayors Oya and Kadir, who are being held in custody unlawfully—in a process where they could have simply had their statements taken over a cup of tea and continued their duties—they are unfortunately currently in custody due to an operation conducted against the CHP, and their freedom is further restricted due to the judicial recess. The presumption of innocence is being ignored. Especially our Mayor Zeydan is a mayor who has become a symbol not just for Adana, but for all of Turkey. Those who think they can erase our mayors from our hearts by tearing them away from here should look at this crowd in this heat, which is reaching nearly 50 degrees, and see how wrong they are. We know that they will certainly regain their freedom, but this injustice by the AKP will be etched in the dark pages of history. There is no salvation alone; either all together or none of us.”

CHP Adana Deputy Orhan Sümer said, “I would like to thank all our fellow citizens of Adana who have supported every kind of event here without missing an opportunity from the first day until today. Adana has shown that it is 01 and remains 01. It is our duty to stand by our youth in this decision they have made on their own, without any influence or imposition. It is important that our youth are taking ownership of the issue.”

Adana Metropolitan Deputy Mayor Güngör Geçer said, “This decision taken today is not just against the imprisonment of CHP mayors, friends; it is an action taken against the injustices and lawlessness currently happening in our country. Therefore, it is very important. I congratulate our youth who are starting this march.”
