CHP Ankara Provincial Chair Ümit Erkol arrested

Nine people, including CHP Ankara Provincial Chair Ümit Erkol, who were detained in Ankara on April 9 as part of an investigation conducted by the İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office into allegations of irregularities involving İZBETON A.Ş., were arrested by the Criminal Judgeship of Peace to which they were referred following their statements at the prosecutor's office.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVESTIGATION

An investigation was launched into allegations that benefits were obtained through the S.S. Business People Gaziemir Building Cooperative in Urban Transformation and Development Area projects in the Gaziemir district via the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality subsidiary İZBETON A.Ş., on charges of "embezzlement," "qualified fraud," "forgery of official documents," and "neglect of supervisory duty."

The investigation file included a complaint petition from the cooperative's new board of directors, victim statements, and expert reports.

9 PEOPLE, INCLUDING CHP ANKARA PROVINCIAL CHAIR, WERE DETAINED

In line with this, detention warrants were issued on April 9 for 10 people who were officials at İZBETON A.Ş. or members of the cooperative's management and supervisory boards at the time of the alleged crimes.

Of the 10 individuals, 9, including CHP Ankara Provincial Chair Ümit Erkol, were detained in Ankara. It was learned that the other person is abroad.

THEY WERE REFERRED TO THE COURTHOUSE TODAY

The 9 people, including CHP Ankara Provincial Chair Ümit Erkol, were referred to the courthouse this morning following their processing at the İzmir Provincial Gendarmerie Command.

The prosecutor's office referred all of the individuals, including Ümit Erkol, to the duty Criminal Judgeship of Peace with a request for their arrest following their interrogation.

9 INDIVIDUALS, INCLUDING ÜMİT ERKOL, WERE ARRESTED

Following the completion of the interrogation procedures at the judgeship, an arrest warrant was issued for the 9 people, including Erkol, whose arrest had been requested.
