CHP Bolu Mayor Tanju Özcan suspended from office
CHP Bolu Mayor Tanju Özcan, who was arrested as part of an extortion investigation into the Bolu Municipality, has been suspended from office.
Tanju Özcan has been temporarily suspended from his position as Mayor of Bolu following the arrest warrant issued against him.
In a statement released by the Ministry of Interior, it was noted that Özcan was arrested by the decision of the Bolu 2nd Criminal Court of Peace as part of an investigation conducted into the crime of "extortion by coercion."
The Ministry's statement included the following:
"Following his arrest by the decision of the Bolu 2nd Criminal Court of Peace as part of an investigation conducted into the crime of 'extortion by coercion,' he has been suspended from office as a temporary measure by the Ministry of Interior in accordance with Article 127 of the Constitution and Article 47 of the Municipal Law No. 5393."
CHP HOLDS MAJORITY IN MUNICIPAL COUNCIL
In the municipal council that will elect the acting mayor, the CHP has 21 members, while the AKP and MHP have 10 members.
