CHP Bursa Provincial Chair Yeşiltaş dismissed, replaced by Turgut Özkan: Party members set up barricades at provincial headquarters

The new CHP MYK has dismissed CHP Bursa Provincial Chair Nihat Yeşiltaş and appointed Turgut Özkan in his place. Party members met the decision with strong opposition.

Following the decision, party members who arrived at the provincial building set up a barricade with chairs at the entrance to prevent the handover of duties.

Making a statement regarding the developments, CHP Bursa Provincial Chair Nihat Yeşiltaş argued that the decision taken was legally and politically invalid, stating, "A nullity committee made a decision. This decision is invalid. Because they convened the MYK without the members gathering and made such a decision. These decisions have no legitimacy. They are completely contrary to the law and party traditions. Therefore, we do not recognize the decision they have made."

Emphasizing that he is still in office and noting that the party organization stands with him, Yeşiltaş said, "We are at our post. The Bursa organization is here, our district chairs are here, our members are here. We will not surrender this building or this organization based on decisions made behind closed doors. We will continue to pursue our struggle within the framework of the law."

"We will not allow them to create a perception of victimhood in the public eye"

Turgut Özkan, who was appointed to the Provincial Chair position, stated in his remarks to the İhlas News Agency, "We do not want the events that took place in Ankara to happen in Bursa. We will not allow a perception that 'we were dismissed, we were victimized' to be created here. We will fulfill the duty assigned to us by law. I expressed my opinion to Mr. Nihat to hold a handover ceremony. However, he did not accept this. There is no victimization here. The legal process is ongoing."

While party members gathered at the provincial building supported Yeşiltaş with slogans, they effectively kept watch by lining up chairs at the entrance of the building.
