CHP's Çelik reacts to the arrest of Şükrü Genç: 'Know your place': 'To protect your power...'
CHP Istanbul Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik reacted to the arrest of former Sarıyer Mayor Şükrü Genç. Çelik stated, "The operations of the politicized judiciary and the conspiracies of the tyrannical government show no signs of stopping."
As part of a terrorism investigation into CHP-run municipalities regarding allegations of providing financing to the DHKP-C through Kazova Tekstil between 2013 and 2014, 17 people, including the then-CHP Sarıyer Mayor Şükrü Genç, former Ataşehir Deputy Mayor Kalender Özdemir, the then-Maltepe District Deputy Mayor Haydar Battal, and the then-Maltepe District Mayor's Chief of Staff Melih Morsünbül, were arrested on charges of "financing a terrorist organization." Özdemir currently serves as a board member at Medya AŞ, which is affiliated with the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.
"YOU CANNOT PLAY WITH PEOPLE'S LIVES"
CHP Istanbul Provincial Chair Çelik reacted to Genç's arrest.
In a post on his social media account, Çelik wrote: "The operations of the politicized judiciary and the conspiracies of the tyrannical government show no signs of stopping.
Our former Sarıyer Mayor Şükrü Genç, who was provided with protection because he was a target of the terrorist organization, and our colleagues who worked in our municipalities in the past, have been arrested on the grounds of supporting a terrorist organization.
Know your place. You cannot put the words CHP and terror side by side! Pull yourselves together.
You cannot play with people's lives to protect your power! Not much time left. We will send you away in an early election and dismantle this cruel order. We will bring justice to our country."
