CHP Chair Özel's response to President Erdoğan on 'the streets': I won't hesitate when the time comes, but today is not that day

CHP Chair Özgür Özel answered questions from members of the press at the closing event of the foundation week, held in front of the party headquarters to mark the 102nd anniversary of the CHP's founding.

When asked whether the party's roadmap was evaluated during the Party Assembly (PM) meeting held before the event, Özel noted that the meeting reaffirmed their determination and resolve to struggle. Referring to the decision to hold an extraordinary congress for the Istanbul Provincial Congress on September 24, Özel said, "This will untie the knot in Istanbul.

There were some knots being tied here, preparations for a Gordian knot. The decisions made by the Supreme Election Council against all of this are decisions that are strictly in accordance with election law. They are decisions that surprised no one and were accepted by everyone who knows this business. Today, we received the presentation of the survey conducted between September 4-6.

The whole issue is that the CHP is the leading party, increasing its strength every day, and because they cannot cope with it, they are trying to force us to bow down and appoint trustees. The labor, effort, and success of the Istanbul provincial organization are clear.

The appreciation received by the Istanbul Provincial Chair and the work he has done with the provincial administration are clear. Obtaining an injunction from a civil court of first instance in such a hasty manner is a blow to politics. We are continuing our struggle against this in every way, and we will continue to do so," he said.

"I DO NOT RUN THE CHP WITH 5 THOUSAND RIOT POLICE"

Reminding that they attended the wreath-laying ceremony in Taksim for the 102nd anniversary of the CHP, Özel stated, "I said '5 thousand people,' but they sent the drone photos; there are more people. What matters is which 5 thousand people are behind you. I do not run the CHP with 5 thousand riot police. We laid the wreath together with 5 thousand people who flowed there of their own accord," he expressed.

"THE STREET AND THE SQUARE ARE A RIGHT AS LONG AS THEY DO NOT PRODUCE VIOLENCE"

Özel said, "I do not accept the trustee appointed by the decision of the civil court of first instance, nor do I accept having the party run by a trustee. My Provincial Chair is by my side; it is Özgür Çelik. We are running our party together.

I did not invite anyone to the streets; I will make a call to the streets when the time comes to do so. I won't ask Tayyip Erdoğan about this either, but I invited people to their 'father's house' (the party), and it was Tayyip Erdoğan who left them on the street.

He did not let them into the Provincial Headquarters. He left them on the street and tried to stir things up there. We advised everyone to remain calm. Let them know this; 'Are you calling people to the streets?' I will not hesitate for a moment when it is necessary to call people to the streets. Today is not that day.

Let them not force that; we have no intention of doing so. The street and the square are a right as long as they do not produce violence, and we will never refrain from exercising this right," he said.
