CHP Chairman Özgür Özel points to 2036

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, in a statement made after the match between the Turkish Women's National Volleyball Team and Italy, said, "Unfortunately, we left the championship for the next tournament this evening. We will achieve very important sporting successes in Istanbul in 2027 and again in Istanbul in 2036."

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu addressed guests at the Paris Istanbul House following the 2024 Paris Olympics semi-final match between the Turkish Women's National Volleyball Team and Italy.

In his speech there, Özel said, "Unfortunately, we left the championship for the next tournament this evening. We will achieve very important sporting successes in Istanbul in 2027 and again in Istanbul in 2036. But I know that together with these beautiful people here, we will see very beautiful days in Turkey, and that we will achieve the goal of catching up with and surpassing the developed countries as shown by Atatürk, all together in the second century of the Republic. I believe in this with all my heart."

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, in his speech, said, "We wished for our girls to win today, but they are already the champions of our hearts. They always will be. They put up an extraordinary fight. In my opinion, they represented Turkish women, they represented our country, they represented the struggle, they represented the Republic, they represented Atatürk. What more could there be? That is why we are happy. The Istanbul House has achieved its purpose."

Addressing the guests, İmamoğlu said, "God willing, we now want to host you, Paris, in Istanbul at the 2027 European Games. God willing, we also want to host the 2036 Istanbul Olympics together, where we will break the greatest record in history and win many, many medals."
