CHP Chairman Özgür Özel's convention assessment: Critical messages delivered

Özel stated that the momentum gained by the CHP in the local elections served as a "psychological lever" and noted that their goal is to replicate the same success in the general elstating that it is to carryit to the elections.

Özgür Özel, in his speech at the convention,said, "this will be our last convention in opposition" recalling his statement, he said the following:

“I had said that if I could not make my party the leading party in the general elections, I would resign. We kept our promise in the local elections. In the general elections, we failed.If we do not succeed, I will not stay, and no one else will either. Thisculture must be establishedwithin the party. In fact, in the future, itshouldbe necessary to add an‘automatic extraordinaryconvention in case of electionfailure’ clause to the bylaws.”

Stating that the newly formed Party Assembly listcarries both experience andchange within the party, Özel reminded that thenumber of seats was increasedfrom 60 to 80. Geographical and political diversitydiversity stating that they paid particular attention to, Özel said thefollowing:

“We wanted to carry the spirit of the Turkey Alliance to the Party Assembly (PM). WKurdish democrats, nationalist democrats, liberals, and differentshades of the left were included in the list. All of them are compatible with the party's program.”

Regarding theThraceregion, within the scope of the plans, Bihlun Tamaylıgil's “Thrace Coordinatorappointed as 'observer'also announced.

"I DID NOT SAYTHAT TODEM PARTY"

Özel stated that the "Stockholm Syndrome" analogy that has come to the agenda in recent days is wrostating that it was misunderstood, he expressed that he was not targeting the DEM Party:

“I am saddened thatpoliticians from the DEM Party took this statement personally.I said this to those who are trying to excludethe CHP from the processand who are trying to...I told those who intend to open a rift between the Kurds and the CHP.”

Özel explained the CHP's new organizational structure regarding the upcoming general election process, noting that the “Presidential Candidate Office” would be at the center of the campaign . will be placedandannounced. Touching upon the tension experienced in Sarachane during thetrustee debates on March 19, Özel described therisks taken that day as followshe explained with words:

“I knew that ifpeople were harmed that day, I would end up in prison.We were either going to surrender or we were going tofight.”

"NEWATTACKS ARE COMING"

Stating that the judicialprocesses targetingİmamoğlu and other CHPexecutives are a "political operation,"Özel said,"New attackswill certainly come; we are ready for them."

"CHP VOTES ARE"AT THE 40 PERCENT BAND"

Making assessments regardingvoter behavior, Özel stated thatin the research conducted, the CHPapproached the 40 percentthreshold when undecided voters were distributed:

"IfThe electorate is seekingauthenticity. The CHP'sstrength also lies in itsauthenticity. We are not askingfor votes forseats, but to solve problems.”

OpenAt the end of his statement Özel stated that CHP cadresowe the trust of the publicto a genuine political approachand emphasizedthat they areindebted to it:

“The government has lost its authenticity. Ourour strength lies inour will for change and our sincerity.”
