CHP Chairman Özgür Özel visits TÜSİAD: 'They are threatening to kill'
Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel visited the Turkish Industry and Business Association (TÜSİAD).
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel visited TÜSİAD, located in Beyoğlu. The visit was attended by CHP Diyarbakır MP Sezgin Tanrıkulu, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Deputy Mayor Nuri Aslan, CHP Istanbul Provincial Chairman Özgür Çelik, as well as other party representatives.
Following the approximately 1.5-hour visit, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel made statements. Stating that they would hold a rally at Beyazıt Square this evening, he said, "We will all be in Beyazıt this evening. Together with all of Istanbul's university students, youth, and democrats of all ages and views with whom we repelled the March 19 coup attempt together, we are here once again in a place very close to Saraçhane; in that beautiful square, we are here for a day where we will demand both freedom for our candidate and the ballot box."
"WE DISCUSSED DEMOCRACY, JUSTICE, AND DEVELOPMENT"
Speaking about the visit, Özel said, "We had planned a visit to convey our feelings of solidarity during the process when our esteemed President, Orhan President, and Advisory Board President Ömer President were taken for questioning following remarks made at a TÜSİAD General Assembly in recent months. The events that occurred after March 19 and the extraordinary agenda did not make it possible to carry out such visits.
In recent days, there have been very active and highly controversial processes. Today, we wanted to visit our president and the TÜSİAD Board of Directors with a large delegation. We discussed Turkey's demand for democracy, justice, and development, as well as our demands, intentions, and hopes regarding winning together and sharing together, sharing fairly together.
Turkey's democrats will protect democracy, and we know that a tomorrow is possible where we will all win and grow stronger together after the government changes, where business people are happy, capital is happy, but the obstacles to the organization of laborers are removed, where Turkey increases its share of global trade and makes the best use of its existing potential, and distributes this fairly through a proper tax system, a tomorrow where both the laborer and the employer are smiling. We discussed this and explained this," he said.
"A MURDERER WHO HAS TAKEN THE LIVES OF HIS OWN CHILDREN"
Regarding a question about the attack on him, CHP Chairman Özel said, "As the person who was the target of that attack, and considering the place and manner in which it took place that day, the probability of that person being just anyone who happened to be there is probably the same as the probability of the North Star falling into Taksim Square. Of course, he is someone specifically chosen; first of all, he is a murderer. I mean, they are threatening to kill, saying, 'If you don't watch your step.' He is a murderer who has taken the lives of his own children. They are saying, 'He didn't spare his own children, will he spare you? Think twice, Özgür Özel, think twice, Republican People's Party.'
It is as clear as day that such a person would not just be 'anyone,' and as he himself described in street interviews, he is under the control and direction of deep forces. I announced it myself; he had come to the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, the police were called, and his statement was taken.
One must leave it to the appreciation of our nation to judge how accurately the risk assessment was made there. The statement by the Police Department confirms our statements and allegations. The fact that no action was taken against him also shows how accurately those who govern the country analyzed this risk. As I said, I have no intention of blaming anyone. But someone needs to be held accountable for the crime they committed. The one who will uncover this is this government, which today has the police, the gendarmerie, police intelligence, and national intelligence at its disposal. To ensure this does not become a burden on the back of this government, the results of an effective investigation must be shared with the public, and these connections must be uncovered in all their aspects, wherever they may lead," he said.
"WE WILL INTERPRET THE LAW FROM A PERSPECTIVE THAT DEFENDS LIFE"
Regarding the Constitutional Court General Assembly's rejection of the request for the cancellation and stay of execution of the 'Law on Amendments to the Animal Protection Law' concerning stray animals, Özel stated, "That law implicitly tells municipalities run by the Republican People's Party, 'Commit murder.' We will not commit this murder. We took the parts of that law that we found problematic to the court; I unfortunately receive the court's decision here with sadness. If the court had canceled it and given a very specific period, a period of a few months, and requested the legislative body to resolve the problems in this regard, it would have done a very correct thing. It would have done something that protects nature, protects animals, protects humans, and protects love. It missed this opportunity. We will continue to interpret the law from a perspective that defends life on this issue," he said.
