CHP council members in Bayrampaşa switch parties, claiming they were 'accused of being dissidents': We put up a fight

In a press statement regarding their resignations, Yarka and Çınar stated, "During the period when we thought we were in the administration, we always opposed appointments that were unrelated to Bayrampaşa and the Republican People's Party (CHP), and we were accused of being dissidents while discussing complaints and objections from the public with the management staff."

Furthermore, Yarka and Çınar added in their statement, "Almost our entire council group was subjected to slander.

Moreover, a 'divide-and-rule' mentality and the habit of not trusting our own staff, imposed by someone whose very presence we were uncomfortable with and objected to, have dealt a heavy blow to the Bayrampaşa Municipality and its politics," they said.

The full text of the statement written by Yarka and Çınar regarding their resignations is as follows:

Our dear neighbors, dear residents of Bayrampaşa,

Until today, we have followed the process with calm and common sense, and we have put up a fight around the truths we believe in. During the period when we thought we were in the administration, we always opposed appointments that were unrelated to Bayrampaşa and the Republican People's Party, and we were accused of being dissidents while discussing complaints and objections from the public with the management staff. The point we have reached has shown how right we were.

Our effort to be part of the solution, not the problem, did not yield results. On the contrary, at the point we have reached, almost our entire council group was subjected to slander. Moreover, a 'divide-and-rule' mentality and the habit of not trusting our own staff, imposed by someone whose very presence we were uncomfortable with and objected to, have dealt a heavy blow to the Bayrampaşa Municipality and its politics.

We have made a difficult and radical decision to heal this deep wound Bayrampaşa has received, to lead the way toward a climate of normalization, and to be able to produce solutions focused on the problems of the public.

As of today, we are resigning from the Republican People's Party. The decision we have made does not mean moving a will elsewhere. On the contrary, we are presenting an alternative for the entire public of Bayrampaşa, especially for the Republican People's Party voters who voted for us, so that problems can be followed up and solutions can be produced.

It is not possible for those who come from the outside and lack these feelings to understand us, who have bonds of neighborliness and friendship in Bayrampaşa. We believe that this bond is the feeling that will normalize Bayrampaşa politics. From tomorrow on, we will focus all our energy on the problems of the people of Bayrampaşa and our search for solutions, leaving all other issues aside, and as always, the conscience of the public will make the necessary assessment. With this belief, we share our resignation with the public.

We are turning a new and clean page in the Bayrampaşa Municipal Council. We are continuing our duties as Democratic Left Party (DSP) council members.

Respectfully,

Cenk Çınar

Yaşar Yarka"
