CHP delegation conducts investigation into mine collapse in Siirt

CHP Deputy Chairpersons Gamze Taşcıer and Deniz Yavuzyılmaz and their accompanying delegation conducted inspections at a private copper mine in the village of Maden in the Şirvan district of Siirt, where a collapse resulted in the deaths of 2 engineers and 1 worker, and left 2 workers injured, and received information from officials.

"WE WILL FOLLOW THE PROCESS"

In a statement to reporters there, Taşcıer stated that they arrived in the region following the collapse upon the instructions of CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, saying, "We will follow this process until all the details of how this incident occurred are revealed, until whoever had negligence or fault is identified, and in short, until the real culprits are found."

PROSECUTOR'S INVESTIGATION

Yavuzyılmaz stated that the collapse occurred between the midnight and 8:00 AM shifts and that 57 workers were on duty during this shift.

"A collapse does not happen by itself, out of nowhere. What happened in the previous shift at this mining operation during work in the same area, why did the collapse occur right at the beginning of the new shift, and how did these 3 people end up under this collapse?" Yavuzyılmaz asked, noting that there is a prosecutor's investigation underway to clarify these points.

"THE COMPANY MUST CERTAINLY TAKE CARE OF AND SUPPORT THEM"

Stating that shift logs, records, and radio communications will be examined in the prosecutor's investigation, Yavuzyılmaz continued his speech as follows:

"The relevant company must certainly take care of and support the families of our miners who lost their lives. The loss of our 3 miners 270 meters underground has once again plunged us all into mourning. We will not let this matter go until it is clarified."

CONDOLENCE VISIT

Later, the CHP delegation paid a condolence visit to the family of Orhan Gültekin, who lost his life in the collapse, in the Conkbayır neighborhood of Siirt city center.

Taşcıer called CHP Chairman Özel by phone to provide information about the condolence visit.

Özel, who spoke on the phone with Lütfi Gültekin, the father of the deceased Gültekin, expressed his condolences to the family.

"THE MAIN ISSUE IS WHAT WE WILL DO"
