CHP's Akay reacts to Ramadan food packages: The government is stealing from the citizen's table
CHP Karabük Deputy Cevdet Akay criticized the price increases in Ramadan food packages, stating that due to the government's poor economic management, it is taking money from citizens' pockets and stealing from their tables.
CHP Karabük Deputy Cevdet Akay drew attention to the price increases in Ramadan food packages.
Akay stated the following:
"The cheapest Ramadan package sold in a supermarket has increased by 370 percent since 2018. The government's poor economic management is taking from the citizen's pocket and stealing from their table every passing day."
Akay issued a written statement regarding the price increases in Ramadan packages, noting that "Ramadan packages have become unaffordable due to price hikes." Akay said, "While the cheapest Ramadan package sold in a supermarket was 49.90 liras in 2018, it has risen to 69.95 liras in 2020, 114.90 liras in 2022, and 234.90 liras in 2024."
"CITIZENS WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SMILE DURING RAMADAN EITHER"
Akay continued his words as follows:
"While an employer could buy 200 Ramadan packages for 10 thousand liras to distribute to their employees in 2018, they can only buy 43 Ramadan packages for the same amount in 2024. We are facing a government that has become an enemy to the citizen's livelihood. Unfortunately, our low-income citizens, who have to account for every bite they take during the other 11 months of the year, will no longer be able to smile during the month of Ramadan either.
"This situation is absolutely unacceptable. This order, which condemns our citizens to live in the shadow of hunger, must now come to an end with a realistic economic model that stands on solid ground."
