CHP's Mühip Kanko: 'The palace in Moldova was also built with our taxes'

CHP Kocaeli Deputy Mühip Kanko expressed his reaction in the General Assembly of the Parliament by stating that Turkey had the Presidential Palace in Moldova built.

Kanko included the following statements in his speech:

“Today, I would like to address the financing of the construction of the Presidential Palace in Moldova by Turkey…

While our country's resources should be used for the welfare and development of our citizens, they are unfortunately being spent on these projects. While Turkey is experiencing a serious economic crisis, such expenditures are unacceptable. It seems the money spent on palaces in Turkey was not enough, and now you are building palaces for the presidents of other countries?

"THE OBSESSION WITH PALACES HAS CROSSED OUR BORDERS"

While our citizens are struggling with high inflation and unemployment, and finding it difficult to meet their basic needs, the Presidential Palace built in Moldova with our citizens' taxes has no benefit to our people. The obsession with palaces has now crossed our borders; it seems we have started building palaces in other countries as well. The government should prioritize using our resources for the welfare of its own citizens. In this period when the economic crisis is deepening, such aid provided abroad is an act of irresponsibility toward our people.

Instead of boasting about building palaces, we should focus on solving our citizens' problems. Friendships and cooperation in foreign policy are certainly important; however, the budgets allocated to such projects should be used for our country's internal issues, job opportunities should be created for our youth, and they should be spent to strengthen our economy. It is not rational to build a palace in someone else's house while our own house is burning.

For this reason, I invite the government to act according to the priorities of our people and to use our country's resources more effectively and efficiently. The welfare of our people must come before everything else. We should take pride in the welfare of our citizens, not in palaces.”
