CHP's Özçağdaş reacts to fake diploma scandal: '400 academics obtained titles through irregular means'

Republican People's Party (CHP) Istanbul Deputy and CHP Deputy Chairman responsible for the Ministry of National Education, Suat Özçağdaş, reacted harshly to the fake diploma scandal in higher education during a press statement he held in front of Istanbul University.

In his press statement, Özçağdaş stated that the reputation of public institutions is being damaged through fake diplomas and expressed that a systematic irregularity has emerged.

Highlights from Özçağdaş's speech are as follows: 

This digital scandal, diploma and title fraud, is an attack on Turkey's digital sovereignty. They are distributing high school and university diplomas, and making those who failed their driver's license exams appear successful. They are changing the titles of more than 400 academics, making them appear successful.

"THE BTK PRESIDENT DIDN'T EVEN NOTICE HIS OWN E-SIGNATURE WAS COPIED"

Turkey has been talking about a scandal for days. The BTK President, who is supposed to ensure our cyber security, is not speaking at all. BTK President Abdullah Karagözoğlu did not even notice that his own e-signature had been copied. They are not making any statements. It is as if the Ministry of Agriculture were responsible for cyber security. Well, who do these people report to? They report to Minister of Transport Abdulkadir Uraloğlu. Mr. Abdulkadir is riding a TÜGVA golf cart, touring summer camps, and sharing photos from his hometown. If there were any sense of shame, the Minister of Transport and the BTK President would have resigned.

"YOU HAVE TURNED TURKEY INTO A PARADISE FOR ORGANIZED CRIME"

You let Turkey's babies be killed at the hands of the Newborn Gangs. You made the Provincial Health Director responsible for that the Minister of Health. You made a tourism professional who looks after his own trade the minister; he did not prevent 78 people from burning to death; he prevented the people he brought with him from being put on trial.

The country's forests burned and were destroyed while the THK's planes sat there without flying. In the Ministry of National Education, 19 million children are receiving education with your self-proclaimed programs; exam questions are being stolen everywhere, in the LGS and ÖSYM. Academics are obtaining titles with money and nepotism, and they are taking money without any shame or embarrassment.

Let me address this to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan! With the loophole created by this one-man regime that you and your friends have produced, you have turned Turkey into a paradise for organized crime. What we are experiencing today is exactly that.

What is happening today is not just a diploma crisis. What is happening today is the trashing of Turkey's digital sovereignty. This is a national sovereignty crisis. It must start with the immediate resignation of those responsible, and it must be ensured that it goes wherever it leads!
