CHP's Sarıbal: Day of Ashura should be declared a holiday
CHP Bursa Deputy Orhan Sarıbal conveyed the demands of Alevi citizens for the 13th day of the month of Muharrem to be declared a holiday.
In his speech at the parliament, Sarıbal stated that declaring the 13th day of the month of Muharrem, which holds an important place in the Alevi faith, a holiday is an important necessity for Alevi citizens.
Sarıbal spoke as follows:
"Today is the 10th of Muharrem…
The day of mourning for Karbala.
On this occasion, we demand that the Day of Ashura, the most important day of the Month of Mourning in our country, which has an Alevi population of 25 million, be recognized and accepted as a holiday."
