Statement from CHP's Emir on 'Murat Çalık': 'He was taken for an emergency CT scan; this is now clearly an attempt on his life'
Beylikdüzü Mayor Murat Çalık, who was arrested as part of an investigation into the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and is receiving treatment at the İzmir Katip Çelebi University Atatürk Training and Research Hospital, has been taken for a CT scan for the second time.
Çalık, who has previously undergone cancer treatment twice, filed a request for release last week on the grounds that prison conditions posed a life-threatening risk, after which he was taken to the İzmir Katip Çelebi University Atatürk Training and Research Hospital for examinations.
Regarding Çalık's health status, his wife, Zehra Evin Çalık, had stated, "His examinations are ongoing; if his cancer recurs, he may not be able to handle it at this age."
CHP Group Deputy Chairman Murat Emir shared the following statements on his social media account:
"Our Beylikdüzü Mayor Murat Çalık, who has been diagnosed with leukemia, has been torn away from his family and doctors and locked up in a prison in İzmir!
Following his surgery, he has now been taken for an emergency CT scan!
This is no longer just injustice; it is clearly an attempt on his life! While defendants in the Madımak Massacre and ISIS members are released citing 'health conditions,' a mayor elected by the people's vote who is undergoing cancer treatment is being condemned to death!
This is the law of the enemy! This is heartlessness! There is no final conviction! Even the accusation of a crime is very weak!
The law of this country has now turned into a torture apparatus working solely for the palace!
When Ekrem İmamoğlu said in his letter yesterday that our safety is not guaranteed, this is exactly what he meant. Yılmaz Tunç, you are still talking about the 'rule of law' and 'judicial reform'! But you are depriving a cancer patient of his right to treatment! What more are you waiting for to release him?"
