CHP's Erdem criticizes 'drug operations targeting celebrities': Police should show their strength to the kingpins

Almost every day, we see famous figures, including actors and singers, being detained under the name of drug operations.

Following these operations, striking reactions are emerging one after another regarding individuals whose names and faces are publicized, and who suffer reputational damage due to the process even if their test results come back negative.

The latest figure to voice their reaction to these operations is CHP Party Assembly Member Bahadır Erdem. Criticizing the fact that famous names are detained in front of cameras and treated like criminals, Erdem asked, "What is the goal of the prosecutor's office and the police in these operations?"

Erdem shared the following statements in his social media post:

"What is the goal of the prosecutor's office and the police in drug operations?

Is the fight against drugs only conducted by bringing celebrities to the police station in front of cameras?

Every beloved TV, stage, and music artist in Turkey is being brought to heel under the name of drug operations.

It turns out that most of them do not use drugs.

No one apologizes to these people for involving their names in such an operation.

Where are those who sell this scourge called drugs, those who bring it to Turkey, those who produce it?

Is there no reaching out to them, no bringing them to heel?

Even if an artist uses it. They are just a user. It showed up in their blood.

Is there a penalty for it in the Turkish Penal Code (TCK)? No. The legislator considers that person a patient.

What really needs to be done is to touch the drug mafia.

To throw them in jail.

To prevent drugs from being sold easily and from being accessible to children.

To give the heaviest sentences to those who bring, produce, and sell it.

When will the time come for the police to stop showing their strength only to 3-5 celebrities and start showing it to the kingpins!"
