Statement from CHP's Erdoğdu on arrests: 'Legal coup will extend to the AKP'

Former CHP MP Aykut Erdoğdu, who was arrested as part of the operations conducted against the İBB, issued a new statement from Silivri Prison through his lawyers following his arrest.

Making striking assessments regarding the arrests, Erdoğdu stated that the ongoing process consists of steps taken to finish off the CHP, and made the following remarks:

My Dear Nation,

We are aware that you are struggling to save us and prove our innocence. We are grateful for these efforts. However, the Rubicon has already been crossed.

From this stage on, we are not detainees, we are convicts. Even if you bring a male camel, they will keep us in dungeons by calling it a female camel. This legal coup will not be limited to us. The slanders will extend to all our municipalities and our Party. After the CHP is interned, it will extend to the rest of the opposition and finally to the AKP. The bed of this river is clear, and the flow of the water will not change.

Do not ever expect conscience or mercy from those who do this to us. Do not allow any bargaining to take place. For my own part, I do not consent to a "take the captives, give the country" position. If necessary, I will serve a life sentence, but I will not grant these slanderers one extra day of the right to oppress. They want to take away not only our political rights but also our way of life, our beliefs, and our values. Whatever I have to endure, I will endure. My son will not be a pariah in his own homeland.

It will not be these people who have lost their morality and conscience who will save us from these dungeons. It will be the determination, resolve, and COURAGE of the Great Turkish Nation. Do not ever fall into despair or fear. Be aware of your power. Sovereignty belongs unconditionally to the Nation. Our nation will show its power within the framework of democracy and law.

Do not worry about us at all. We are resisting like lions under the harshest isolation conditions and we say LONG LIVE THE HOMELAND. Sooner or later, we will get out of these dungeons.
