CHP Group Deputy Chairman Gökhan Günaydın made notable remarks regarding Keçiören Mayor Mesut Özarslan, who resigned from the party after being elected as the CHP candidate. Emphasizing that candidate selection processes must be questioned, Günaydın stated that it is essential for the party to conduct a comprehensive self-criticism on this matter.

Speaking on a program he attended on TELE2, Günaydın stated that he had consciously kept his distance from Mesut Özarslan for a long time. Reminding that Keçiören had been his own electoral district for many years, Günaydın noted that he had not established any contact with the municipality or Özarslan to date.

While expressing that the events were not a surprise to him, Günaydın argued that the CHP's decision to elevate certain individuals to important positions did not yield the right results for the country's future.

In his statements during the program, Günaydın used the following expressions:

"I am the group deputy chairman of this party. I also served as an Ankara deputy in the past. Keçiören was also in my own electoral district in the 2nd region. Why do you think I have never entered the Keçiören Municipality until today? I never knocked on its door, I never engaged with the person called Mesut Özarslan. Because I know the personality I am dealing with. This is not a surprise to me.

It is time for us to conduct a self-criticism, including all these candidate selection methods. Giving such people positions and status in the Republican People's Party does not serve the salvation of the country."
