CHP had called for an extraordinary session: Second Can Atalay application also rejected
CHP Group Deputy Chair Ali Mahir Başarır announced that Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş rejected the CHP's call for an extraordinary session regarding Can Atalay.
The Republican People's Party (CHP) had called on Parliament to convene for an extraordinary session again on Tuesday, September 10, at 14:00, for Can Atalay, who was elected as a Hatay deputy from the Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP) but whose parliamentary membership was revoked due to the verdict rendered against him in the Gezi Park trial.
CHP Group Deputy Chair Ali Mahir Başarır announced that Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş rejected the call for the session.
Başarır stated, "The Republican People's Party's call for the Grand National Assembly of Turkey to convene for an extraordinary session on September 10 for Can Atalay of the Workers' Party of Turkey, who is in prison and whose parliamentary rights have not been restored despite Constitutional Court rulings, was rejected by Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş."
It was stated that Kurtulmuş's reason for the rejection was that the Parliamentary General Assembly was being called for an extraordinary session on the same matter for the second time.
