CHP holds protest in front of YÖK: The winner will be İmamoğlu
The CHP held a protest in front of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) following the cancellation of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu's diploma and made statements.
Following the announcement that a gathering would be held in front of the YÖK building after the cancellation of İmamoğlu's diploma, CHP Ankara Provincial Chair Ümit Erkol addressed the crowd that arrived in front of the YÖK building at 23:00.
In his statement, Erkol said the following:
Today we celebrated the 110th anniversary of the Çanakkale Victory. This morning, we commemorated our founder, the great leader Atatürk, and his comrades-in-arms with gratitude; this country resisted against seven great powers, and as their grandchildren, we will show the same resistance against the palace and tyranny.
Today, the academy was used like a weapon; the law had been used before as well...
We are in front of YÖK, perhaps we came so that deaf ears might hear our voice better! The ballot box will come, and the CHP's candidate will sit in that seat; fear is of no use against destiny.
No power will be able to determine our presidential candidate for us; we will field our candidate against the palace's presidential candidate...
This public will hold those responsible for oppression, hunger, and misery accountable at the ballot box! This public has known how to give the necessary response to those who violate the rights of others...
On March 31, the public went to the ballot box and made the CHP the leading party in Turkey, and they have continued to make it the leading party since that day.
The Republican People's Party will reclaim that diploma and will field its own candidate against the palace's candidate and win that election.
We do not recognize this decision, which is null and void, and we will hold the primary election this Sunday; we will be on the streets until the primary election...
We will return the diploma to its owner; the winner of the struggle will be the people, it will be İmamoğlu, it will be the CHP.
This struggle will continue until the rightful party receives their due!
CHP Deputy Chairman Suat Özçağdaş also made a statement:
We are here to oppose a constitutional coup; we are here to fight against a structure that does not care about the problems of university students and does not see the problems of academics.
A person who entered their university and graduated, İmamoğlu, and dozens of people who applied with him, graduated with merit.
Fear is of no use against destiny! You will not be able to hold onto this country with these illegal acts, by using force and violence, and by acting against the constitutional order. You will not be able to suppress this nation...
Everyone who has a signature under this illegality will be held accountable for it!
The CHP will go to a primary election this Sunday; all citizens will participate in this great celebration on Sunday!
Those who brought the country to this state will be forced to leave power.
From here on out, we say: we challenge you...
