CHP's Karatepe slams BRSA Deputy Chairman Aydın: 'A mental blackout and a scandal'

Karatepe criticized the fact that Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BRSA) Deputy Chairman Mustafa Aydın invited executives of banks and financial institutions under the supervision of the BRSA to his wedding, and that these individuals attended, describing it as a “mental blackout and a scandal.”

Yalçın Karatepe characterized this situation as an “ethical and legal scandal,” emphasizing that the decay in the banking sector has reached dangerous dimensions.

Karatepe summarized his statements as follows:

“It is a complete scandal for a public official to invite the general managers of banks he is responsible for supervising to his own private wedding, and for these individuals to attend the wedding by allocating budgets between 150 thousand and 350 thousand liras.

This situation shows that those who should serve the public are prioritizing their personal interests.

The fact that public bank executives attended the wedding and presented gifts is a clear indication that public resources are being misused. Embezzlement charges should be brought against all public bank executives who attended this wedding and presented high-value gifts. Using public resources for personal relationships in this manner is unacceptable.

"THE DECAY IS DEEPENING"

BRSA Deputy Chairman Mustafa Aydın must return all the gifts he received. This is both a responsibility toward society and an ethical obligation. Public officials are required to place the public interest above their personal interests. This behavior by Aydın is an abuse of public office, and a legal process must be initiated immediately.

The fact that a regulatory body like the BRSA is so intertwined with the banks that should be under its supervision shows that the decay in the sector is deepening. Public officials placing their personal interests above the public good is a dangerous process that harms the country's economic future. As the CHP, we will continue our struggle to put an end to such unethical practices.”

Journalist Timur Soykan announced that BRSA Deputy Chairman Mustafa Aydın sent wedding invitations to the executives of banks and private financial institutions under the agency's supervision. Soykan pointed out that the aforementioned executives stood in line to present gifts at the wedding.

Noting that many MHP figures, in addition to financiers, attended the wedding, Soykan also reported that former Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu served as a wedding witness. Stating that the executives who would attend the wedding held meetings beforehand to determine the gifts to be presented, Soykan said, “The gift-giving ceremony lasted for hours; no one danced, and there was no entertainment.”
