CHP mayors urge Özel to 'meet with Erdoğan': 'If things continue this way...'

Details have emerged from the Social Democratic Municipalities Coordination Council (SODEMBEK) meeting held at the CHP Headquarters.

Following AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's targeting of CHP-run municipalities over Social Security Institution (SGK) debts, foreclosure proceedings were initiated against the municipalities.

According to a report by the Türkiye newspaper, known for its proximity to the government, it was alleged that mayors requested CHP Chairman Özgür Özel to meet with Erdoğan to resolve the problem during the SODEMBEK meeting.

The mayors, who conveyed their demands to the CHP leader at the meeting, specifically requested that the "practice of collecting debts at the source" be abandoned. 

It was claimed that the mayors explicitly told Özel, "The collective bargaining period is approaching. If things continue this way, we will become unable to pay salaries."

In addition to the mayors, it was stated that CHP officials are also pressuring Özel to meet with Erdoğan. CHP officials requested that CHP leader Özel meet with Erdoğan to prevent foreclosures on municipalities due to premium debts and to have the interest charges waived.

If the meeting takes place, it will be the fourth time the two leaders have come together since the election.
