CHP's Başarır files criminal complaint against Yeni Akit News Manager Zekeriya Say: He had said 'look at that look' to Ebru Eroğlu

CHP Group Deputy Chairman Ali Mahir Başarır has filed a criminal complaint against Yeni Akit News Manager Zekeriya Say, who said of Ebru Eroğlu, the top graduate of the Military Academy: "Look at that look. Her eyes are literally darting around. It's obvious what kind of person she is by how she made 900 lieutenants her playthings. What is she doing in the Prophet's hearth?"

In the criminal complaint petition submitted to the Istanbul Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor's Office by CHP member Başarır's lawyer, Uğur Poyraz, it was stated that in accordance with Article 301 of the Turkish Penal Code (TCK), "elements accepted as signs of the sovereignty of the state and nation were insulted and belittled," and it was noted that Say's post exceeded the nature of criticism, commentary, and reporting, and should be evaluated within the scope of a crime due to the intent to humiliate.

'HE HAS HUMILIATED OUR SOLDIERS AND THE MILITARY ORGANIZATION'

In a written statement regarding the matter, Başarır stated that Say belittled the achievements of Military Academy top graduate Ebru Eroğlu and noted the following:

"This individual, who calls himself a journalist, has humiliated Lieutenant Ebru, and naturally, our soldiers and the military organization. What he did is not criticism; it is insult. Humiliation; disparagement, breaking honor, showing as worthless, belittling, degrading, and devaluing fall within the scope of the TCK 301 crime. I have reported this individual for the opening of a public lawsuit."

'WE DEMAND HE BE PUNISHED'

In Başarır's criminal complaint, the following expressions were included: "It is not so much about the humiliation of a specific person or group of people with the concept of the Turkish Nation, but rather the damage to widespread and accepted social sensitivities. For this reason, we are reporting as the victim of the crime. For the aforementioned reasons, the necessity of submitting a complaint petition has arisen due to our demand that the person/persons who carried out the act containing insults against the client be punished."
