CHP's Tanju Özcan calls on Devlet Bahçeli: 'Turkey would be grateful to you'

AKP is preparing amendments to the Animal Protection Law for a new regulation concerning stray animals.

Acting upon the request of AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, AKP officials have initiated work on a draft law that proposes the "euthanasia" of stray dogs if they are not adopted within 1 month, on the grounds that they pose a "vital danger."

BAHÇELİ: HOW LONG WILL THEY BE PUT TO SLEEP?

The remarks of MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli regarding the legal regulation in question have become a major topic of discussion.

Bahçeli stated, "I don't fully know the proposed form of the issue. Who is proposing it and for what purpose? When they put them to sleep, how will they be put to sleep, for how long will they be put to sleep, and who will put them to sleep? No one knows these things. But those who made excessive comments about the love of animals yesterday have now reached a position of complaining about stray animals. It seems that boundless, limitless love is of no use."

"TURKEY WOULD BE GRATEFUL TO YOU"

CHP Bolu Mayor Tanju Özcan made a call to MHP leader Bahçeli through a post on his social media account.

Stating, "Mr. Devlet Bahçeli, when AKP deputies say 'put to sleep,' they mean killing," Özcan expressed the following:

"Mr. Devlet Bahçeli, the AKP deputies who submitted this draft law are not talking about temporary sedation. When they say let's put the animals to sleep forever, they mean killing them. Spaying and neutering is the only solution to this, but many municipalities do not have a spay/neuter center. If you give an instruction to this government and ensure they provide incentives for the establishment of centers for spaying/neutering and shelters, Turkey would be grateful to you."
