CHP Menderes Deputy Mayor Rüzgar Sönmez apprehended
As part of an investigation conducted by the İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office into the CHP-run Menderes Municipality, Deputy Mayor Rüzgar Sönmez, who was being sought as a fugitive, has been apprehended at his hideout.
Within the scope of the investigation carried out by the İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, detention warrants were issued for 16 individuals, including Menderes Mayor İlkay Çiçek, on charges of 'establishing an organization for the purpose of committing crimes', 'membership in an organization established for the purpose of committing crimes', 'bribery', 'extortion', 'forgery of official documents', 'misconduct in office', and 'causing zoning pollution'.
Following this, an operation was conducted by the gendarmerie at the Menderes Municipality early yesterday morning.
15 people, including Mayor İlkay Çiçek, were taken into custody.
Fugitive deputy mayor apprehended
The deputy mayor and council member Rüzgar Sönmez, who was being sought as a fugitive among the suspects, was apprehended and taken into custody today as a result of coordinated efforts by the National Intelligence Organization (MİT), Police Intelligence units, and the İzmir Provincial Gendarmerie Command's JASAT teams.
