Salıcı had stated that the entrance fee now being charged to tourists visiting Hagia Sophia, which was converted from a museum into a mosque, was going into the coffers of DEM Müzecilik, a company owned by the brother-in-law of Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, and had announced that no share of the collected fees was being transferred to the state.
