CHP protest over İmamoğlu on the bridge

In response to the removal of posters and banners featuring İmamoğlu, CHP deputies hung an İmamoğlu banner on the 15 July Martyrs Bridge. The banner was removed by police shortly after, and an investigation has been launched into the incident.

A banner for freedom for Ekrem İmamoğlu was hung on the bridge.

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel commented on the banner hung on the bridge via his social media account, "This is our response to the coup plotters who ban İmamoğlu's posters and banners." he stated.

Özel added the words, "This is just the beginning, the struggle continues," to the end of his post regarding the banner hung on the 15 July Martyrs Bridge.

BANNER REMOVED, INVESTIGATION LAUNCHED

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into the incident.

It was also reported that the banner had been removed.

The statement read: "On 24.05.2025, at approximately 19:40, it was observed that CHP deputies Mahmut Tanal, Suat Özçağdaş, Ali Gökçek, İlhami Özcan Aygun, Ahmet Baran Yazgan, and Nimet Özdemir hung a banner featuring the silhouette of Ekrem İmamoğlu with the words 'FREE İMAMOĞLU' written on it, hanging from the bridge. Officers from the Bosphorus Bridges Protection Branch Directorate intervened in the incident, removed the banner, and judicial proceedings have been initiated regarding the matter."
