CHP Provincial Chair Karadeniz: Mayor Köksal is not answering calls
Following allegations that Afyonkarahisar's CHP Mayor Burcu Köksal had switched to the AKP, CHP members gathered in front of the municipality to protest the situation. CHP Provincial Chair Hasan Karadeniz stated, "Unfortunately, our Mayor has been unable to withstand political pressure; neither I nor our party leader can reach her by phone."
Party members gathered in front of the municipal building following allegations that Mayor Köksal had switched to the AKP.
While police took extensive security measures, CHP Provincial Chair Hasan Karadeniz made a press statement, reminding that there has been no official announcement yet, and said, "Since these reports began to circulate last night, neither I, as the provincial chair, nor our party leader have been able to reach our mayor; she has not answered calls and has not returned them.
She has not replied to messages. This silence is not a good sign. There is no definitive statement, but unfortunately, our mayor has bowed to political pressure and could not resist it."
Following the press statement, the party members protested the situation for a while longer before dispersing peacefully, while it was reported that Mayor Köksal was out of the city.
