CHP reacts sharply to the re-arrest of Alaattin Köseler: 'There is no such judicial system'

CHP Deputy Chair Gökçe Gökçen, regarding the re-arrest of Beykoz Mayor Alaattin Köseler after his release, stated, "The purpose of criminal law is to reach the material truth. If you have an allegation, you support it with evidence and strengthen your justification. Issuing a re-arrest warrant after one day of freedom is an application of enemy criminal law."

The objection filed for the release of Beykoz Mayor Alaattin Köseler was accepted by the court. It was stated that the objection filed against Köseler was accepted and an arrest warrant was issued. Following the acceptance of the objection, Köseler was detained at his home. Köseler and 4 others, who were taken to the Anadolu Courthouse, were re-arrested 30 hours later.

CHP Deputy Chair and İzmir MP Gökçe Gökçen expressed her reaction to Köseler being re-arrested after his release in a statement made via her social media account.

Gökçen noted the following in her statement:

"Just one day after our Beykoz Mayor Alaattin Köseler was released, a re-arrest warrant was issued for him. The purpose of criminal law is to reach the material truth. If you have an allegation, you support it with evidence and strengthen your justification. But now, finding a compliant judge is enough to make political decisions. Issuing a re-arrest warrant after one day of freedom is an application of enemy criminal law. It is an indicator that a psychological struggle is being waged. This lawlessness is going down in history; rather than discouraging us, it makes our struggle even more determined!"

CHP Deputy Chair Gökan Zeybek reacted on his social media account and included the following statements:

"You are destroying the sense of justice. I went to the home of our Mayor Alaattin Köseler, who was released yesterday. Before I could even offer my well wishes, he was taken and arrested by the team sent back to his house. You are dragging the file from court to court to ensure an arrest. The 17th High Criminal Court rejected the arrest request. However, this time, the higher court, the 18th High Criminal Court, decided on his re-arrest. Playing with people's freedom in such an arbitrary manner tramples on the rule of law. These people have families, they have children. The persecution being carried out deeply wounds consciences."

ÇELİK: THERE IS NO SUCH JUDICIAL SYSTEM

CHP Istanbul Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik also said, "A 'hand' sworn to fight against the will of the people is constantly interfering with judicial decisions. The court panel that heard the case and examined the entire file decided to release Alaattin Köseler and all the defendants. Another court panel, which saw the cover of the file only today, re-arrested them. There is no such judicial system! Alaattin Köseler must be released and return to his post!"
