CHP reacts to AKP over 'Gaza Peace Council': What are you doing there?

CHP Party Spokesperson and Istanbul Deputy Zeynel Emre held a press conference at his party's Istanbul Provincial Headquarters. Reiterating his demand for trials to be broadcast live, Emre also addressed the allegations of violence at an IMM nursery, stating, "Our officials, without wasting any time, investigated the incident at this service unit where there are 35 cameras. There are no blind spots; there are 35 cameras, and everything is visible.

Reminding that many CHP mayors, primarily CHP's presidential candidate and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, are imprisoned, Emre said, "We are witnessing one of the practices in Turkish judicial history that will be remembered with shame in the future. We trust our friends. If you trust your allegations, go ahead and broadcast them live on TRT. Open it to the access of 86 million citizens, let our citizens see who is right and who is wrong," he stated.

Recalling the positive statements from the MHP regarding the live broadcasting of trials, Emre said, "Our legislative proposal for a legal regulation on this issue was rejected by the votes of the Justice and Development Party and the Nationalist Movement Party. Because there is clearly a perception operation here, a study clearly conducted to confuse people's minds. The black propaganda being carried out does not match the facts in the file. No. He is outside, not under arrest. And at the beginning of today's hearing, we saw that he was given more than 10 bodyguards. He is taken inside through special VIP lounges, outside the doors that all of us enter. And in contrast to this, the people this person accuses, mayors who are being tried with up to 4 years in prison, are under arrest. No one should expect justice from here. Look at Zeydan Karalar, the Mayor of Adana Metropolitan Municipality. There is no indication, no evidence, not even a trace that he is directly related or connected to this file. If there is an allegation regarding him, during his time as the Mayor of Seyhan, the competent local court is Adana, but he is also being tried while under arrest in Silivri Prison. We cannot talk about law here, this is clearly an enmity," he said.

Criticizing the restrictions on journalists brought to the Aziz İhsan Aktaş hearing, Emre used the following expressions: "It was decided that 25 members of the press could watch. And 5 of these 25 are foreign, 2 are local press members, and the court decides who these will be. If you trust your allegation, put the cameras in, let everyone come, let everyone watch. Speaking about the allegation that a child was subjected to violence at a nursery affiliated with the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, Emre stated that the CHP is trying to solve citizens' problems through municipalities and spoke as follows: "First, let's underline this: on December 1, one of our attentive instructors there asked about a bruise on a child's chest, followed up on it, and investigated. She called the child's mother, and the child's mother said, 'Oh, he must have fallen while playing with friends,' but she recorded everything that happened, including this statement. Our officials, without wasting any time, investigated the incident at this service unit where there are 35 cameras. Now, the goal here is not the best interest of the child or anything, the goal here is that education center, which has been found successful from the beginning and is appreciated by the public, and the positive situation there. Therefore, such a perception operation emerged, and today you see the Minister of Family and Social Services shouting and making statements, trying to confuse people's minds. We do not use children to do politics; we produce services."

"WHAT ARE YOU DOING AT THAT TABLE"

Touching upon the ongoing Israeli attacks in Gaza and evaluating the government's participation in the Gaza Peace Council, Emre used the following expressions: "Israel has an expansionist policy, and Trump is behind it. Trump is also behind Erdoğan, and we see that this trio is making and implementing decisions regarding the Middle East together. There was also a statement from the Justice and Development Party Spokesperson, Mr. Ömer Çelik. What does he say? 'Gaza is not real estate, it is a homeland. Palestinians are governing Palestine.' Now, they should govern, everything up to here is fine, dear friends. We agree with this statement. Well, what about Trump describing that homeland as real estate behind it, talking about a new Gaza project, and a council being established there, a so-called peace council, which is not a council established under the United Nations. What are you doing at that table, dear friends? If there is sincerity, here is a sincerity test for you. There is a Trump who says in essence, 'I am a real estate agent.' There is a Trump who wants to share that place. We warn the government once again from here. If you say Gaza is a homeland, various arrangements must be made there with an organization under the roof of the United Nations for the future of that homeland. If you are truly sincere, the grievances of the people who are victims there must be resolved. If you say 'Palestinians must govern Palestine,' Palestinians are not at the table, dear friends, Palestinians are not at the table. What are you doing in a project that markets Gaza through coastal tourism, skyscrapers, and investment opportunities? If you say 'Gaza is not real estate, as Trump says,' he says there, 'I am a real estate agent in essence.' When will you take a principled and consistent stance regarding that place? There is an exploitation order there, dear friends. The peace that Turkey needs is not to be attached to the league of authoritarians who sell peace by subscription. It is a need for realistic diplomacy that is compatible with United Nations principles, accountable, and based on the Palestinian will."
