CHP reacts to court ruling on Yüreğir Municipality acting mayor: The will of the people has been ignored

CHP's Sarı stated that the CHP candidate won the election in the fourth round with 19 votes, and that despite this, it was unlawful for the task to be given to AKP candidate Tarık Özünal by counting the 19 votes from the third round as an absolute majority.

Sarı issued a written statement on his social media account regarding the acting mayoral election in the Adana Yüreğir Municipal Council. 

Müslim Sarı used the following expressions in his statement:

"The Adana Yüreğir Municipal Council consists of 38 people, including the mayor. In the third round of the acting mayoral election, the CHP received 18 votes and the AKP received 19 votes.

The number required for a candidate to be elected in this round was 20 votes. Therefore, no candidate could be elected in the third round.

In the fourth round, the candidate with the most votes was to be elected. The CHP received 19 votes, the AKP received 17 votes, and 1 vote was declared invalid. With this result, the CHP candidate won the election.

Despite this, the cancellation of the fourth-round vote and the awarding of the position to Tarık Özünal on the grounds that the AKP candidate had achieved an absolute majority with 19 votes in the third round is an act of ignoring the will expressed at the ballot box.

This decision is clearly against the law. The will of the Yüreğir Municipal Council cannot be overturned by a court decision. All necessary legal remedies will be sought against this decision."
