CHP reacts to law proposing traffic fine hikes: 'The real goal is...'

Süleyman Bülbül, CHP Group Spokesperson for the TBMM Justice Commission, stated that the increases in traffic fines proposed in the Highway Traffic Law, which will be discussed in Parliament today, are exorbitant, adding, "The real goal is the scramble to patch the budget."

Bülbül made the following statement:

"With the Highway Traffic Law to be discussed in Parliament this week, heavy fines will be placed on the shoulders of citizens. The AKP is trying to fix the economy it has ruined with these heavy fines it is loading onto the citizens' shoulders.

Traffic administrative fine amounts are already increased every year at the revaluation rate, meaning by exorbitant amounts. The raise rates that are not granted to workers, retirees, and minimum wage earners are applied without hesitation to the increases in these fines and fees.

While a 15.75 percent raise was given to retirees and a 30 percent raise to minimum wage earners in 2025, the revaluation rate was set at 43.93 percent. While traffic fines are increased every year according to this rate, and purchasing power continues to fall day by day, have you found the solution to the economy you ruined in fining the citizens?

The real goal of this proposal, which increases traffic fines by up to 300 percent in an immoderate, disproportionate way that damages social justice, is not 'safety'; the real goal is the scramble to patch the budget.

Increasing traffic fines, which are already rising by 43.93 percent at the revaluation rate, by 300 percent here, and then increasing them again with the revaluation rate after 31/12/2025, is clearly making the citizens carry the burden of the budget. Stop seeing the citizens who are trying to survive on salaries below the hunger threshold as a budget item. For once, provide support to the citizens you have impoverished."
