CHP-run Üsküdar Municipality halts construction of Medipol, founded by Fahrettin Koca
The Üsküdar Municipality, which passed from the AKP to the CHP in the local elections, has announced that construction of the Medipol Hospital, founded by Health Minister Fahrettin Koca, has been halted.
The Üsküdar Municipality, won by CHP candidate Sinem Dedetaş in the March 31 Local Elections, has reported that construction of the Medipol Hospital—whose zoning plans were cancelled by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), leaving the land without a plan—has been halted following inspections and reviews.
According to a report by İsmail Arı from BirGün; a zoning plan had been prepared for Medipol University by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change. The Ministry had converted a 4,164-square-meter area located right next to the Medipol University Çamlıca Hospital from a residential and secondary education facility area to a “higher education facility area.” The zoning plan report stated that the plan change was made for Medipol University. The construction condition for the area was set as ground floor + 5 stories. The Istanbul 12th Administrative Court, upon the application of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), decided to cancel the zoning plans on January 31, 2024.
The construction continuing on the land, whose plans were cancelled, was recently halted by the CHP-run Üsküdar Municipality. A citizen named Emre Özipek applied to the Üsküdar Municipality, stating that the ongoing construction on the now-unplanned land was illegal. The Üsküdar Municipality announced that the construction was halted following the necessary checks and inspections.
