CHP's Başarır challenges prosecutor to 'investigate the non-existent diploma': Recalls surname suspicion
CHP Group Deputy Chairman Ali Mahir Başarır, at a press conference in the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM), raised suspicions regarding the "surname" found in the diploma registry, stating, "I am providing concrete evidence" regarding President Erdoğan's diploma.
CHP Group Deputy Chairman Ali Mahir Başarır, speaking at a press conference in Parliament, stated that the country's fundamental problems are poverty and misery, saying, "We are in the month of Ramadan, and I say this with regret: there are long queues at the Ramadan tents we visit.
After breaking their fast, our people pull bags out of their pockets and ask, 'Can you give us the leftover food? We will eat it at suhoor,' and under these conditions, the country's Minister of Health presents his ingenious finding, claiming that the majority of the country is overweight. He has identified the solution in two points: 'One, do not fill your stomach completely; two, you will exercise.' There are two great dietitians in this country who do their jobs properly.
One is Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the other is Mehmet Şimşek. Millions of people cannot fill their stomachs completely. People are gaining weight because they cannot afford to eat vegetables and fruits; they cannot consume protein. The vast majority of people complete their meals with bread. These ministers and the administration, who are disconnected from reality, have brought the country to disaster, and they are also giving people weight-loss methods as if they are mocking them," he said. Başarır stated the following:
"HOLIDAY BONUS SHOULD BE ONE MONTH'S SALARY"
Turkey's fundamental problem is economic hardship. Individual loans and credit receivables have reached 140 billion, the number of files in enforcement offices has exceeded 22 million, citizens' credit card debt is 4 trillion, and our citizens have debts to banks amounting to almost one-third of the 2025 Turkey budget. The hunger threshold is 24 thousand, and the poverty threshold is 76 thousand liras. Millions of retirees and minimum wage earners live below the hunger threshold, but there is a government that never gives up on its own budgets, luxuries, and pleasures. On one side, while millions live below the hunger threshold and struggle with misery, there is a government that does not give up on its vehicles, palaces, and aircraft convoys.
The amount of bonus millions of retirees will receive is not being discussed. We should be discussing how we will make the salaries of retirees and workers, 20 percent of which have already melted away, last until the end of the year. The holiday bonus should be one month's salary, but we are wondering if they will give it, if we will debate it, or if they will continue to govern this country with dirty perceptions."
"HE PROVED HE LIED"
Stating that they will take AKP Ankara Deputy Osman Gökçek to court for creating a perception that the CHP group requested a quorum during the time of iftar in the TBMM General Assembly, Başarır noted the following:
"There is a government in Turkey that deceives people with dirty perceptions. Osman Gökçek is a deputy who does not suit the Parliament. He tried to deceive millions using religion. What is it? The CHP group requested a quorum at the time of iftar. I showed Bekir Bozdağ as a witness. We requested a quorum 1 hour and 10 minutes after iftar, but they are creating a perception without shame or embarrassment. People's beliefs, thoughts, and religious feelings are being exploited by the government. We must get rid of the prayer rug acrobats who pollute our religion and beliefs, the religious merchants, those who give 'çakar' (flashing lights) to Cübbeli, and those who establish holdings for Menzil. We respect the beliefs of millions of our citizens, but people are being arrested based on slanders thrown over them. We experienced the most important example of this in Parliament yesterday. Will there be an ex officio investigation into that deputy? It won't happen, but people are being detained for any crime due to a perception created on Twitter. We filed a criminal complaint with the prosecutor's office against this person called Osman Gökçek, who does not suit this Parliament and is not a pair of living beings like his father and himself. The most important witness, Bekir Bozdağ, proved that he lied."
Responding to questions from journalists after his statements, Başarır said regarding the Cyber Security Law Proposal, "In yesterday's negotiations, we said that there were major problems in two articles. There were provisions that would result in searches, seizures, or investigations with just the signature of the person at the head of the Cyber Security Board, without a judge or prosecutor's decision. We said that these should be changed and removed, that there should be a regulation worthy of a state of law, and that the legal security of individuals should not be damaged without a court order. There are problems entirely in two articles and partially in one article. If this regulation is made, cyber security is of course important for the country as well," he said.
"THE PROSECUTOR WHO DOES NOT QUESTION THE PRESIDENT'S DIPLOMA..."
"The prosecutor who does not question the President's diploma is questioning Ekrem Bey's diploma, our provincial congress, and our grand assembly"
Regarding the questions about the investigations launched one after another against CHP district mayors in Istanbul and the discussions regarding the authenticity of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu's university diploma, Başarır gave the following response:
“These investigations are shameful. A coup is being carried out in the country through the law. There are some prosecutors who mediate this coup. For the first time in our history, three mayors are in prison in Istanbul. A mayor's diploma is being questioned, even though it is clear that he studied at that school, met the equivalence requirements, and that the school and YÖK approved the lateral transfer.
35 years have passed, and we are questioning this. Instead of questioning the diploma that exists, question the non-existent diploma. Ekrem Bey puts his diploma forward. A person's diploma does not exist, and no one has seen it. A professor who signed the President's diploma was using her maiden name at that time.
There was no such provision in the Civil Code at that time. Let's distribute Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's diploma copy to the press and see. The two ladies there use two surnames. At the date it was issued, there was a requirement in the Civil Code to use the husband's surname. The prosecutor who does not question this is questioning Ekrem Bey's diploma, our provincial congress, and our grand assembly.
Can the will of a party and its delegates be questioned? Those delegates have one crime: they elected Özgür Özel, who dealt Tayyip Erdoğan his first defeat in his 22-year rule after many years. You will lose more elections with this mindset. We are standing tall. It is not your place to discuss that will. All of these investigations are political; they have no legal basis."
